AI vs. Human Generated Content

I'm seeking to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of generative AI and importance of authenticity. If you have a moment, I would greatly appreciate if you could share your thoughts on how important you feel it is to be able to distinguish between AI generated and human created content?

Cheers!

My opinion is that it's critical to be able to tell the difference. If we can't tell the difference, then everything has to be treated as machine-generated, which further reduces societal trust and increase alienation.

Well it seems like AI is being used to generate fake engagement and dialogue on social media platforms. Seems like a dangerous direction to go in.

This is exactly what sparked a whole rabbit hole of pondering on my end and wanting to explore deeper. It was bit less malevolent, I was finding myself getting annoyed at the relentless, ChatGPT word vomit, polluting valuable discussion. It doesn't take much effort to find several paths that lead to dark places however.

how do u define authenticity? small talk is not authenticity. why can't you have an authentic conversation with ai? in my view, if it's honest and not generic (take an argument "democrats vs republicans"), it is authentic. don't fetishise the authenticity of human conversation, as ppl are experts in lying to themselves

By authentic I simply mean that the content was created by the human author and not generative AI.

while crucial when it comes to emotional relations, why does it matter in a conversation about washing machine?
