I have worked professionally with various aspects of information security since the late 1990s, including forensics, incident handling, code review, systems, networks and policies.
As a freelance security consultant since 2016, I have considerable expertise in guiding management teams on how to proactively implement a risk-based ISMS - beyond mere checklist and compliance. I design for business value and resilience at every step.
- Mobilize strategic changes by leading leaders and facilitating collaboration.
- Partnering with key stakeholders, I have written simple and concise security policies, then guided their teams on implementing procedures and reporting to support critical business functions.
- Trained Procurement, HR, Software Developers, System and Network Administrators on safer procedures, technical countermeasures and elevated security requirements.
- Planned and executed Business Continuity and Incident Response.
To this day I specifically maintain skills on system design, administration and networking, because the devil is always in the details.

I've been using Go as my primary language for the last seven years, although I don't overly care about the specific language and have experience with a wide variety of tools and languages such as Python, Ruby, PHP, C, JavaScript, Lua, and probably some more. While I've mainly focused on backend in the last few years, I also have written plenty of frontend code over the years, from the "pre-jQuery" days to VueJS.
In the last few years I mainly focused on GoatCounter (https://www.goatcounter.com) with the occasional contract job, but I'm keen to start working on something new for the longer term.
I've got quite a bit of code on my GitHub, so you can take a look at that if you want: https://github.com/arp242/
I started designing and developing websites way back in 1997 on a Sega Saturn Netlink. Without a keyboard in hand, I hand-wrote my table based HTML markup in old notebooks to transcribe into CGI web editors utilizing an on-screen keyboard and controller, and of course, all while collaborating over IRC.
Luckily, times have changed and I now own both multiple PC's and keyboards. I have since worked on countless projects from interesting startups in various spaces, to enterprise level applications, goverment funded incentivized data applications, as well as multiple personal and collaborative projects. I also founded Elemeno, a collective of talent functioning as a digital agency. You have most likely even seen some of my design work for large brand-names in the market.

As a Senior Software Engineer (Ex-Automattic), I possess extensive expertise across the full software development lifecycle, with a strong focus on front-end technologies like React, Redux, and TypeScript. At Automattic, I significantly expanded my scope beyond front-end development; I spearheaded DevOps initiatives, managed continuous integration processes using GitHub Actions, and contributed to backend development with PHP. My role involved optimizing workflows through automation and enhancing product scalability and maintainability.
Recognized for my problem-solving capabilities and technical versatility, I excel in adapting new technologies to address complex challenges. My career reflects a robust ability to lead projects, triage issues, and innovate across both front-end and backend development, making me a valuable asset in any software engineering team.

About Me: I'm a full stack developer, leaning towards the front end, with 3+ years of web dev experience plus some mobile experience. I also have some game dev experience in Unity and Unreal Engine. Along with having experience in the technologies listed above, I've recently been learning Three.js and D3.I'm actively seeking full-time or part-time opportunities, plus I have experience in both established companies and early-stage startups. Even if it's for an early stage startup I'm flexible with discussing a reasonable hourly salary.
I'm open to a lot of different industries, and some areas that I'm particularly interested in developing for include health care, travel, hospitality, ed tech, clean tech, game dev, and anything VR or AR related
I focus on front-end, UX, and product development, but I’m also comfortable working with back-end code when needed. I’ve led front-end teams and built several products from scratch—always aiming for a great user experience.
