Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer? (July 2025)

Please lead with either SEEKING WORK or SEEKING FREELANCER, your location, and whether remote work is a possibility.

Please only post if you are personally looking to hire a freelancer or work as one. Agencies, recruiters, job boards, and so on, are off topic here.

SEEKING WORK | EU, Croatia (UTC+2) | REMOTE ONLY

Experienced full stack software engineer with a demonstrated history (10+ years) of working with enterprise solutions on premise and in cloud. I don't shy away from maintaining old code bases or learning new/old technologies and I'm very comfortable wearing many hats.

I love working directly with stake holders, even if they don't have engineering background. I can also team up with other freelancers and I know a few I've worked before in case you need more hands on deck, or need someone with a specialization, e.g. UI/UX design, translations...

Tech stack: Node (Typescript), .NET (C#), Vue, React, Blazor, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, DevOps, Docker

Cloud: Azure, AWS, Hetzner, Digital Ocean

Hey, I'm James! I have my company (OneVariable), and have 7+ years of embedded Rust experience, and 10+ years of embedded experience. I've been helping teams start using Rust, or scale up their use of Rust, through advising, training, and development assistance, as well as "Senior as a service" to help teams that are ramping up but still need help with questions around embedded/rust. Happy to help customers in EU and NA time zones.

Let me know if you need any help getting big computers talking to smaller computers!

SEEKING WORK - Data scientist, remote worldwide, email in profile.

I'm a data scientist, I'm looking for hard problems to solve. Hair on fire "This is causing lemon-law recalls and we can't solve it."[1] type problems.

I love avant garde problems, and have a pretty unique toolset (LLMs+KB, OR+ML, etc). I've worked with names you know in automotive, tech, and other spaces. Recently I've been working with Oil & Gas - Production estimates, pricing, and things I'm not allowed to talk about.

I've worked on projects including LLMs, knowledge extraction, automotive part failure prediction, translation, maintenance optimization, automated sports highlights, and more. I've also done some more interesting work including vehicle route planning in constrained environments.

Get in touch. Even if you're unsure, get in touch. Referals welcome. Email in profile.

[1] Yup. Done that. A few times.

SEEKING WORK | Remote | AI Infrastructure & Performance

Location: Wisconsin

---

Last September I built an AI inference tool that hit #3 on HN (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41620530). It processed 17.3M messages in 24 hours and only cost $17 to run.

I specialize in:

- LLM inference optimization (FastAPI, proper batching, memory management)

- CI/CD pipelines for ML deployments

- Making AI systems cost-effective at scale

Recent work: FrankenClaude (reasoning injection experiments, https://thelisowe.substack.com/p/frankenclaude-injecting-dee...), self driving Rocket League (https://thelisowe.substack.com/p/building-an-ai-that-plays-r...), diffdev (AI-powered code modification tool, https://pypi.org/project/diffdev/).

Previously at Sprout Social where I built their ML inference platform - reduced deployment time from 6 months to 6 hours and cut AWS costs by $500K/yr.

Looking for interesting problems in AI infrastructure, performance optimization, or building products from scratch.

Tech: PyTorch, FastAPI, K8s, Docker, AWS, ONNX
