So who's gonna do a Podman v. Rancher? OP? You ready for that challenge??

This is a hell of a lot like saying you ditched driving cars to ride a monorail with only two stops in the wrong neighborhood. You’re comparing apples and oranges and selectively leaving out info to highlight that.

Great, if you're on Mac: https://apple.github.io/container/documentation/

I like Podman with it's API for hosting (no k8s) but I reverted back to Docker for local because of docker-compose incompatibilities. This was a year or more ago so it may not still be an issue.

I had an issue where docker was not producing repeatable sha's. Somehow a time based metadata was affecting the image sha after every build.

Switching to podman immediately fixed it, never looked back

5 years ahead of you on that.

Interesting how slowly this advice has bubbled up. This is another software example where people didn’t care about resource usage and were “fine” with the Docker daemon.

docker works well enough.

podman avoids having to deal with the Purchasing department, but doesn't work great.

would definitely suggest doing docker if you're up to dealing with the purchasing department.

Getting fs permissions in Docker can be a real chore when not running a container in root. Does podman make this easier or just make it required work?
