Remote: Yes
Willing to relocate: No
Technologies: Distributed systems, database architecture, F1/Spanner, infrastructure scaling, technical debt triage
Résumé/CV: https://www.linkedin.com/in/joebar/
Email: joe@barrera.org
Distributed systems architect. 30 years building infrastructure at CMU, Microsoft Research, Google. I help startups (10-100 people, Series A-C) avoid catastrophic scaling mistakes. I'd rather prevent your outage than debug it.
What I've built: Mach kernel at CMU under Rick Rashid. Research systems at Microsoft BARC (Gordon Bell, Jim Gray). 9 years on F1/Spanner at Google. 4 USPTO patents in distributed systems.
What I'm good at: "Your database architecture will fail at 10x scale, here's why and here's the fix." Technical debt triage with limited resources. Pattern recognition from decades of catastrophic failures. Currently thinking about LLM verification architectures and why static alignment is the VLIW of AI safety.
What I'm looking for: Fractional CTO or senior advisory role (20-30 hrs/week). Series A-C, 10-100 people, real infrastructure problems.
Hey, I'm one of Stellar's founders. We're building AI for large contact centers, our primary product is voice.
Everyone thinks contact centers are boring. They're wrong. It's the last place where companies actually talk to their customers. We listen to calls every week and it's fascinating. AI here helps real people: shorter wait times, 24/7 support, lower cost. We’ve helped companies go from 60 to 98% pickup rate in weeks.
We're bootstrapped, 10 FTE, cash-flow positive, and growing fast with household names in the Netherlands and Belgium. Doubling our volume every month for the last 4 months.
We’re all builders. Everybody in our company still writes code. We have 2 roles open:
1. We need product minded engineers who can jump between our Go and TS backends and React frontend.
2. We need implementation leads that love working with clients. FDEs welcome as well.
This role is perfect if you:
* Want massive ownership at a small team
* Actually enjoy solving hard problems (real-time audio at enterprise scale)
* Think making AI sound human in niche dialects is a fun challenge

EU work authorization is required. No visa sponsorship available.

I'm Kris, a manager on Access Control at Verkada.
Access Control is a core product at Verkada. We build the systems that power how customers secure and manage their offices, schools, and campuses. Our software unlocks nearly 8 million doors every day. These are mission-critical systems, not internal tools, and reliability and usability matter a lot.
My frontend team builds more than small widgets or forms. We design and deliver entire workflows that bring clarity to complex systems - managing doors, groups, schedules, users - all within a unified, elegant interface. This means working closely with world-class designers (and debating them when needed), but also having the vision and technical depth to lead when design resources are scarce.
I'm looking for a React expert who can bridge craft and leadership: - Lead technically within the frontend team, setting patterns and guiding others. - Collaborate deeply with our web infrastructure and component library teams to shape the building blocks of our platform. - Champion UX - because building secure, intuitive experiences at global scale is as much about design empathy as it is about React/Redux mastery.
This is a team for engineers who want real ownership, visible impact, and problems rooted in production reality. Verkada is pre-IPO with a $5.8B valuation, and the entire engineering org is about 350 people, which keeps scope high and teams relatively autonomous.

I'm an EM at WorkWhile. We're an ML-powered labor marketplace on a mission to help 80M+ hourly workers find better-paying, more predictable work. Our platform uses demand forecasting, realtime skill based worker shift matching, dynamic pricing and many other features to solve problems in a $650B staffing industry that still runs on spreadsheets, phone calls and legacy systems.
Demand for our services is increasing and we have a lot planned. We're growing and hiring across the product engineering org at senior and staff levels:
* Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack
* Senior Software Engineer, Backend
* Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack
* Staff Software Engineer, Backend
We are a small engineering team with a lot of surface area, real ownership and impact. See link below for more details about the company and the roles.

Apple’s Data Platform team is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead a small, high-impact team building distributed data infrastructure at Apple scale.
This team owns a multi-tiered data fabric powering critical AI/ML workloads — handling data placement, replication, and lifecycle management across multi-cloud and multi-datacenter environments.
What you’ll do
- Lead and grow a team of strong engineers working on distributed systems
- Drive technical direction and execution for large-scale data infrastructure
- Partner cross-functionally to support AI/ML platform needs across Apple
- Stay hands-on in architecture, design reviews, and problem solving
What we’re looking for
- Strong background in distributed systems / infrastructure
- Experience managing and developing engineering teams
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-autonomy environment
- Comfortable going deep technically (this is not a “pure manager” role)
Tech stack / environment
- Systems programming (Rust)
- Distributed storage + compute infrastructure
- Large-scale, production-critical systems
- Multi-region / multi-cloud environments

Youth Inc. is a venture-backed commerce and media company focused on the youth and high school sports market.
We are looking for a Head of Engineering. This is the most senior technical role in the company, reporting directly to the CEO. You will own the architecture, execution, and evolution of our proprietary commerce platform while building and leading a small, high-impact engineering team.
This is not a role where you manage engineers and stay out of the code. It is not a role where you write code and stay out of the business.
What We Are Looking For
1. Experience at a growth-stage company. This is the most important qualifier. You have built and scaled systems as a company grew around you.
2. Strong communication skills. Given our organizational structure, you report directly to the CEO, join partner calls, and work laterally with our GM of Commerce. A brilliant engineer who cannot communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders will not succeed in this role.
3. Full-stack technical depth.
4. 8+ years of engineering experience with meaningful time leading teams.
5. E-commerce or marketplace experience is a strong plus.
6. Elixir or Phoenix experience is a plus, not a requirement. We will not eliminate a great candidate over language experience.
Location: Chicago, Nashville, or Boston preferred. Open to remote for the right candidate.
This is a role for someone who wants to build something that matters in a market that is ready for it. If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.
Please email jbutler@youth.inc
Conductor is an app that lets you run a team of coding agents on your Mac. We've grown 10x since January, and just yesterday we announced our $22m Series A. We're a small team (four people) and we're looking for exceptional software engineers and designers to work with us in SF!
Healthcare-focused engineering firm in LA. We build and maintain the technical infrastructure for a concierge primary care practice serving employer groups across multiple states.
Looking for a player-coach: hands-on in TypeScript/Node.js + React + AWS (Lambda, ECS, RDS, SST, PostgreSQL) every day, while mentoring a junior engineer and owning architecture decisions. Healthcare integrations are messy (EHR systems, labs, SFTP file drops, claims data) - if you've done this kind of work, you know.
Healthcare/HIPAA experience strongly preferred. This is a path to running the technical operation, not a staff augmentation gig. Small team, real ownership, no bureaucracy.
Paid take-home assessment (no LeetCode). We compensate you for your time regardless of outcome.
Health/dental/vision (50% covered), 401(k), unlimited PTO.

L2 Labs is a brand new applied AI lab advancing database systems, data mapping, and data integration. We're fast growing: we closed a pre-seed funding round, established partnerships with Cornell and NYU, and secured a large enterprise customer in less than 3 months. We are a team of hard-working researchers and engineers who are obsessive about intricate, greenfield data problems - we love whiteboarding, spinning up experiments, ordering pizza, and suddenly it’s 2am and we've actually solved something. We build impactful products + publish in A* research venues.
We are currently seeking Founding Research Scientists + SWEs, with very meaningful upside in the form of a generous equity package. To learn more/reach out, email hiring@l2labs.ai.
