Something that was really grotesque was some responses to statistics around teen pregnancies. Basically, some pundits were arguing that the drastic drop of teen pregnancy due to education was a bad thing.

A very high portion of teenage pregnancies resulted from sexual abuse from an older adult.

People are out there quite literally arguing that the sexual abuse of essentially children is good for society, to enable the population pyramid scheme.

Don't get it twisted, no politician wants an educated populace.

Schools aren't necessarily just for education, they serve the role of childcare while the parents work, and teach obedience to authority.

Yup. Similarly, work is daycare for adults. Better locked up in a corporate office than in the streets protesting.

We've banned this account for repeatedly posting flamewar comments, using HN for ideological/nationalistic/religious battle, and breaking the site guidelines in plenty of other ways as well.

Please don't create accounts to break HN's rules with.

Banned that account for a legit comment but you conveniently ignore all the communists and anti-Trump, group-think, down-vote warriors. Maybe it's time to get paid for something other than being a moderator (level up your employment). It's why unions are not good; bad employees get to stay in their position regardless.

Agree 100%. You are far more likely to be flagged if you have a reasonable but unpopular right leaning opinion with a similar edge to the left leaning opinion with just as much “sass” as the response.

I don’t feel like it was always like this.

> Banned that account for a legit comment

Not for that comment, but for the pattern of breaking the guidelines. Note the words "repeatedly" and "plenty" in my comment above. If it had just been that one comment, we'd have either posted a warning or not done anything.

There's another factor too: when we have reason to believe that the person has done the same with previous accounts, we're more likely to ban instead of warn. It's all relative though.

> you conveniently ignore all the communists and anti-Trump, group-think, down-vote warriors

I know it feels like the other side always gets a pass, but actually, when accounts with those views (or any views) are breaking the site guidelines repeatedly, we ban them too.

If you see some that we missed, links are welcome. We don't come close to seeing everything that gets posted here.

Your comment is noted and appreciated about the reason for the ban but OPs point is well taken - pro-Trump or right leaning comments that are very reasonable but unpopular positions to leftists here are more likely to be flagged, even when the original post they respond to is just is inflaming.

Please edit out swipes, as the site guidelines ask: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html.

Your comment would be fine without that last bit.

Something horrifying. Among other things, the commenter ignored this is about child marriages, but also had some delightful gems like arguing about what women are "designed to do best" for "their happiness". You can imagine the rest. Or just watch The Handmaid's Tale I suppose.

It feels very 1980s for a magazine called "Nature" looking at African culture like this. Getting an ick feeling.
