Technologies: Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS, Go, Python, Docker, Helm, Argo, Kong, Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, Vector, Quickwit
Resume/CV: [available on request]
Email: open4work2026@gmail.com (want to keep it anonymous because coworkers are on HN)
Currently Lead Platform Engineer at a security AI startup where I built the platform team from scratch (0 to 5 engineers) and architected multi-tenant Kubernetes infrastructure across 40+ clusters with per-tenant KMS encryption and Argo-based progressive delivery.
Before that, spent nearly 6 years as Staff SRE at Iterable where most of my work centered on making infrastructure cheaper and more reliable. Replaced ELK with Quickwit for 65TB/day log ingestion (saved $1.2M/year), migrated Lambda pipelines to Vector ($60k/mo down to $8k/mo), and stood up VictoriaMetrics to replace Datadog for 33M metrics ($30k/mo savings). I tend to find the project that saves the most money and then actually build it.
I write Go -- built Kubernetes operators for RabbitMQ, Redis, and Vector (open source: github.com/zcentric/vector-operator). Terraform is my IaC of choice and I've used it everywhere from a global Predix platform (Japan, EU regions) to scaling Kubernetes clusters from 10 to 300 nodes on spot instances for satellite image processing at Urthecast.
I've managed teams at three companies (up to 6 engineers) and served as product owner for SRE groups, but I'm open to both IC and management roles at the Staff/Principal/Director level.
Looking for: DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, or Cloud Infrastructure roles. $200K+ total comp. Remote only, US-based.
Remote: Yes, US time zones
Willing to relocate: No; remote, or onsite in Hillsboro/Beaverton
Technologies: Linux kernel, Rust (Rust-for-Linux), C, C++, device drivers, I2C/SMBus, power-supply, Android/AOSP, SoC bring-up, bootloaders, RT Linux, JTAG, Python

In 2012 I wrote the SMB347 charger driver that is still in mainline Linux (commit ed1a230f, v3.4). This year I ported it to Rust and sent it upstream as an RFC, adding a Rust power_supply class abstraction mainline doesn't have yet. The maintainer replied "having Rust bindings for new drivers sounds good to me" -- direction approved, not merged; v2 in progress.

Before that: Intel (AOSP, tablet bring-up, secure-boot firmware), Cisco (C++ firmware and ASIC HAL generators, Catalyst 4500), ClearEdge Power (embedded Linux for a 5 kW fuel cell), then ten years as a startup CTO. 30+ years total.
Looking for kernel, driver, or embedded work -- full-time or contract.
Willing to relocate: No (remote only)

I'm a senior software engineer and consultant with 5+ years of experience building web applications and SaaS products. I combine strong frontend engineering with hands-on responsibility for system architecture, backend workflows, database design, and cloud deployment.
Most recently, my consulting work on Calendy (https://calendyapp.com), an appointment booking and business-management SaaS, spanned product requirements through production launch. I designed and implemented the application architecture, relational database schema, and cloud infrastructure, including booking concurrency controls, tenant isolation, role-based permissions, and subscription billing integrations.
Previously, I contributed to EmbedSocial's SaaS platform, working across Vue 3/TypeScript features, Social Listening, Automations, and AI editor workflows. At Banzae, I built React/Next.js applications and worked directly with clients on requirements and delivery.
I'm looking for senior frontend, full-stack, or software consulting opportunities where I can stay hands-on, help shape technical decisions, and take work from requirements through production.
Technologies: Linux, DevOps, RouterOS (Mikrotik), OpenWRT, Teltonika, Cloudflare, Tailscale, VPN, Qemu/KVM, VMWare ESXi, Docker Compose, Git, Grafana stacks, POSIX filesystems, Restic, AWS S3, OpenLDAP, MS365 (Entra and Exchange Online), Bash, Saltstack, Custom OS builds, and many more.
Background: - 20+ years hands-on GNU/Linux (self-taught, on-field expertise) - 10+ years remote B2B contracts (long-term retention, proven reliability) - Deep specialization: On-premise infrastructure (bare metal & hybrid), disaster recovery, business continuity under critical conditions - Technical leadership: Architecture decisions, strategic advisory, operating autonomously under pressure
Highlights: - Emergency infrastructure migration during active conflict in Eastern Europe, 2022 (datacenter evacuation, 7 days full production recovery, zero data loss) - 5 years: Lead Infrastructure Engineer at German company (datacenter ops, thermal observability, HA architecture) - 2+ years: R&D infrastructure at USA & UK companies (OS integration, test automation, virtualization, orchestration) - Open-source: VM-Babysitter architect & maintainer (Unraid Community Apps) - Languages: Native Spanish / Fluent English
What I'm Looking For: - Fractional CTO / Infrastructure Advisory roles - Project-based infrastructure design / implementation - Board advisor roles
Availability: 20-30 hours/week, flexible Rate: $75-120/hour (projects); $4-8k/month (retainer); open to equity + stipend

--------Hello, my name is Jesse. If I was born to do one thing in this world, it's program computers.
I describe myself as a competent generalist; I'm frequently working on something I've never done before. I've worked at every level of the stack, from cycle-shaving hot SIMD loops to the frontend of large web applications. I've been described as "the best engineer I've ever worked with" by coworkers with surprising frequency.
My most recent professional experience has been about a year at a semiconductor startup; I worked on prototypes for an ISA, compiler, a cycle simulator, and a visual debugger.
My most impressive open-source contribution is a voxel engine called Bonsai. It's written completely from scratch, and depends on nearly nothing external. There's a link on my Github profile below.
I'm comfortable working in heavily multithreaded/async soft-realtime environments where performance is a key acceptance criteria. I have a good understanding of modern hardware architectures, including GPUs, from main memory to registers and instruction pipelines.
In my personal life, I enjoy travelling, surfing, climbing, backcountry skiing, snowmobiling, pirates, and attending raves. I like the phrase "have strong opinions, weakly held".
Thanks for reading, Jesse
