Apple forgot to mention Safari not being open source but rather tied to a proprietary platform not to mention Safari on mobile kept in a short leash to protect the AppStore.

The browser engine is WebKit[1] which is open source, so not any different than Chrome.

There is uBlock Origin lite, works pretty well: https://apps.apple.com/pl/app/ublock-origin-lite/id674534269...

Ya everyone replied with this and I have used it. It has been a year or so, so I will try it again, but I remember it missing some pretty big stuff.

Wipr2 is amazing.

ublock origin lite has a safari extension: https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uBOL-home

it's missing the element zapper and has some other limitations, but it works pretty well for the most part

combined with ublacklist and sponsorblock it's fairly good coverage for safari

> it's missing the element zapper

Support for element zapper was added more than 18 months ago in version 2025.3.23.1241.[1]

I ditched both to favor Firefox many many years ago.

Funnily, it's not a "Switch to Safari" campaign, but a "Stay on Safari" if you look at Apple's material.

Reminds me of PC vs Mac campaign

There's always Edge (increasingly favored by IT here). Our machines used to ship and favor Chrome, but Edge has been the new IT-gods blessed browser ever since we bumped to Windows 11. Apple seems to be the only tech-titan that is not interested in extending their browser onto other platforms. So be it.

They stopped that years ago. Safari for windows was a thing.

I almost lost my Google account because of Safari. I bought some official Google USB keys https://store.google.com/us/product/titan_security_key?hl=en...

I setup two of them for my Google account but I made them both in Safari. Only one of them worked. What if both of them failed? I would have been fucked.

I re-made them on Chrome and they both worked.

Why don't they just say "c'mon, get us even more than $20B per year please". That's really whats going on here.
