Ask HN: What's your current AI agentic setup?

I'm curious how people on HN are using AI day to day, and came up with a list of questions I thought could be interesting to know. No need to answer every question of course, just wanted to get a gut feel how people are using AI.

1) What AI subscriptions are you personally paying for? (Claude, ChatGPT/Codex, Cursor, etc)

- Which tiers?

- Have you purchased multiple subscriptions from the same provider (eg two Claude accounts)?

2) Are you using models outside (or instead) of those subscriptions? For example, pay-as-you-go APIs, OpenRouter, or locally hosted models.

- Which models and providers?

3) What coding harnesses and interfaces are you using? Are you sticking with the default CLIs or IDE integrations, or using alternatives like OpenCode, Pi, Aider, Muse Code, or custom-built harnesses?

- What made you switch harnesses (if you switched)?

4) Are you using any agent orchestration or swarm tools?

- For example, Munder Difflin, Gas Town, Ruflo, or something custom.

5) Are you using broader agent platforms like OpenClaw / Hermes Agent / Grok bot / Dots / Muse?

- If you are using them, what are your main use cases?

-----

I know my workflow has differed significantly from a year ago, and so it would be interesting to capture a snapshot today of what people are using and why.

I'm yet to find any value in complex software factories and multi agent harnesses. If you know what you're doing, you can just use Codex or Claude for the core research and development.

Claude Ultra, No, Claude Code, Claude Code can orchestrate agents, No, but I run Claude Code on a VPS of its own for some things.

We have an OpenSWE agent on Slack at work but it seems horribly expensive and slow for anything I want to do.

Claude Pro. Mainly used for developing my apps Pagecord and Feedgrab, but also for personal stuff like diy problem solving. travel planning, data chores, etc.

I feel I get a wild amount of value out of £90/mo (paid for via my apps revenue)

Just pi with some custom mcp for search and web. Oh and Hermes but limited use

Currently on a GLM sub and will need to decide whether to renew in 3 months.

People are complaining about the new plans usage limits but I do have a -50% discount so idk

No subscriptions. Using pay as you go Muse Spark 1.3 contributor version set in medium for everything from infrastructure management to pure coding in Pi. No orchestration and no agent platform.

Muse Spark 1.3 contributor might not be the smartest or fastest, but it does well most of the tasks and is super cheap.

I often brainstorm some ideas for apps for personal use on ChatGPT with a few prompts, and when happy with the rough shape of the concept, asking it to spit out a prompt to execute it on OpenCode with Spark. Usualy this gets done in a one shot or a little refinement and costs only a few cents. I hope the contributor version is here to stay.

1) Not paying for anything personally, except for whatever the ChatGPT casual plan is for the family to use. All my work usage is on the $100/month OpenAI plan.

I had the free Claude Max for Open Source plan, but haven't paid for it again now that it lapsed. I haven't used Claude for ages anyway, the way it talks really annoys the hell out of me, Codex App & models are far nicer IME.

2) No

3) I'm happy with the Codex/ChatGPT desktop app, works super well. Also use the Codex VSCode plugin a bit, and started recently experimenting with herdr. Used to use Cursor but I switched when Musk bought it. Very very occasionally I use some other thing like opencode or pi for targeted situations, or Codex in the CLI

4) No

5) No

I don't have the bizarre need to have dozens of agents going at once in my work or personal time, already feel flat out at work just using Codex w/ worktrees for a few concurrent projects at a time. I feel more productive than ever, I don't see how I could add more without being overwhelmed

I'm hoping to read people's experiences with cmux. My son showed me a demo, and I was pretty blown away. I haven't had time to look into it much myself.

I have been using cmux for a year before transitioning to Rex. In the end I realized I only used two features of cmux: tabs and workspaces.

And I liked it but I had the feeling it’s starting to be a be bloated and they started pushing features with their account I don’t need.

So far Rex has been a great alternative.

I haven't written a single line of code since a full year ago. Using Codex/GPT and Devin

Cursor + Grok for serious engineering work.

Local Qwen and custom harness to experiment.

1. Claude and Codex 2. Openrouter for deepseek and Helmcode 3. All of them, mostly claude, codex and pi 4. We use agent-swarm.dev (self-hosted OSS MIT) 5. See 4 :D
